My first ever trip to Far-East was in the early 90's with my parents. When we arrived into KualaLumpur, we did not really enjoy it and wanted to go checkout the beach at Penang. The best memory ever of Penang from those days is that even when we stayed in a hotel, we never ate there ever, and instead had all meals at the local Paratha stalls.
Since 92/93, when I rediscovered Penang in 2005, it was no less than stepping into a 'Real Paradise on Earth.' Maybe many other parts of the world are more serene and beautiful, but there was something about that place in that time, that from the Penang Night Markets to Komtar Shopping, my soul was rekindled with a new vibe then.
From that point on, I knew Malaysia was my second home.
In 2007, in an effort to experience Ramadan in a Muslim country, I went to KL. Although, I did not get to experience a whole lot then, due to my own fears of stepping out alone at night, but I still had a decent experience of the Ramadan Bazars and some mosques during the day time. That year, I also discovered Putrajaya.
From escaping the winters in late 2014, to experiencing Langkawi in 2016, I knew I had to go to Malaysia at the end of 2019. In retrospect, if I had not spent my early 2020 there, I certainly would have not survived Covid.
